Yesterday I was reading the local newspaper and there was a story about a family who was struggling and were bound to have a crappy Christmas. It was a single mom with cancer and her two teenage sons, one of who is also ill and still undiagnosed. Despite the fact that my own life is pretty stressful right now, hearing this story help to reinforce just how lucky I am to have what I have.
At the end of the article, there was an email for the author, so I emailed her and asked how I could help. She said that they had had an overwhelming response and that the family that had been in the news would be more than taken care of for Christmas. This warmed my heart!
Instead, she suggested, I should contact my town "Youth Bureau" and find out what could be done for needy children in my own town. Turns out there are more than 100 families registered in my town alone, so Leah and I will be shopping for a needy family tonight!
Sometimes the world seems so evil, I thought you might like to hear a story about the good that is out there, too.
